Rising to almost 6km above the East African plains, Kilimanjaro is the world’s tallest freestanding mountain. Taffy & Kevin will trek through all four seasons on their climb, from steamy forest to snowy peak. They will experience high humidity, extreme cold, and hardest of all, a massive change in altitude up to 19,340 feet over the course of this spectacular undertaking which will take them a full week to complete.
There has been a lot of publicity about climbing Kilimanjaro recently, after a team of djs and music industry celebrities reached the top earlier this year. Anyone who saw the programme they made about the journey will have been staggered at the difficulty of the task, and the physical endurance and strength required. Of the options available for routes up the mountain Taffy and Kevin have elected to climb the much more challenging and unbelievably difficult Machame route, which is steep and technical,. It’s a beautiful route, but tough and rugged. Among the physical requirements listed for this route are ‘a will of iron and calves of steel!!’
So, the training is underway, as is the fund raising. Taffy and Kevin are hoping to raise the massive sum of £10,000 for Wish Upon A Dream, and they have started with spectacular success, raising thousands of pounds in the first few weeks. Local businesses are taking advantage of the superb Sponsorship Board scheme being offered by B&Q, who are a major sponsor of Kevin and Taffy’s climb. Kevin can be contacted on 406010.
We are very grateful for your support. This is a fantastic effort by these
generous and courageous men, and by supporting them you are supporting us, which
means we can help make more dreams come true for poorly and terminally ill children
on the island.
